Run to the hill 🇭🇺

🇭🇺 Miskolc → Füzesabony → Eger → Budapest
Woke up early and into the Miskolc tram for the last time, towards the train station.
I’m going to Budapest tonight, but with a detour. The first train took me to Füzesabony, where I only stopped to change train.
The next one was in direction of Eger, where I decided to do a little side day-trip today to the castle. It is in a strange half-ruined half-restored state, with parts of it closed off to the public because of rockfall hazards. Anyway, it had great view all over the city of Eger. There aren’t much other things on display, so given the great weather, I treated myself to the restaurant in the court. A bit expensive for my habits, but well worth the price, for once giving proper fuel to my body. They even offered me a Turkish coffee.
Why Turkish? Well, Hungary has been under Ottoman rule for a few centuries, and they let their mark in the local culture. I am no linguist, but Hungarian language somehow look to me like a mix of a Central European language and Turkish.
A few hours later, I was back at the train station, for the last train, towards Budapest this time.
I arrived at the beautiful Keleti station, and from there took the metro towards the bank of the Danube, where my hostel is. Wow! What a sight when coming out from the underground! Budapest is such a majestic city, cut in half by the blue Danube, with the castle and other great buildings running along both banks. There is also a high hill just on the edge of the river. As sunset was approaching fast, I speedclimbed that hill, on top of which is the Citadel.
I arrived there extenuated, but unfortunately, the Citadel itself was closed. I went around through an unmarked path and finally reached a wonderful viewpoint: the setting sun falling behind the hills in the West, the Castle, the Danube, the Parliament, and the sunset-lit city of Budapest… It was quite magical.
I went around and down the Citadel hill as night was falling, and decided to take an old tram through one of the bridge, just for the sake of it. I then treated myself to another restaurant for today, and went to bed.
Now, there is one message I would like to adress to, well, anyone actually:
If you are in a public space, transport, or, you know, a dorm, PUT YOUR FUCKING EARPHONES ON. Keep your freaking Tiktok/Instagram repetitive earrape for yourself, for fuck’s sake! This is the basic of respect in society. I cannot fathom how one can not felt guilty in the slightest at sharing their audio crap with the entire World around them. That is beyond me…
