Sometimes you should just not detour 🇸🇮

🇸🇮 Celje → Pragersko → Ptuj → Pragersko → Maribor

Somewhat boring day.

On my way to Maribor, just one hour from Celje, I spontanesouly decided to leave the train in Pragersko at 11:15 AM, to take another one to Ptuj, a small city that looked pretty nice.

The train for Ptuj was half an hour late, but that’s ok I have time. It was interestingly a Hungarian train, heading for Budapest, with old compartment carriages. It only took 10 min to get to Ptuj.

It was a charming little town alright, with a charming little castle. But, to be honest, there wasn’t much to do. So I chilled at a café for an hour and had overly expensive ice cream.

However, the train out of there was also 30 min late. You gotta hate train delays when they come in packs. Funnily enough, it was the same Hungarian train, with the same controller!

Back in Pragersko, the next train for Maribor was actually the previous train for Maribor that should have already left but was late too. You gotta hate train delays… unless they turn out to your advantage. By now it was already 3 PM and I had overall a super boring day, and somehow I was exhausted. Ptuj wasn’t worth the four-hour detour tbh.

The ride was also only 10 min long, and half an hour (and two pastries) later, I was crumbling in my bed.

I rested there for about three hours until I finally moved my ass out of the hostel, to the lovely riverside for pizza and beer.

Also, in the last few days I made plenty of PLANNING. Now in an ideal and totally egocentric World where everyone on the planet makes their schedule according to me, I would have gone from Maribor to Graz, then cross all Austria East to West, until arriving in Liechtenstein for a night or two, and then to Switzerland to meet with Nicolas for a week. From there, I’d have gone to Venezia [Venice] to meet with Duha (who accompanied me in Poland and Czech Republic in March, remember?) while she’s having a few days off there. After that, I’d head to Città di San Marino [City of San Marino] for the restored train ride, and then continue on my way South.

However, time constraints will make this part of the trip look like a total kid’s scribble on the map. But that’s good! I love a good planning challenge! So here’s the plan:

Next night in Graz, then Innsbruck. From there, I run to Treviso to meet Duha on the 26th. Abandon her on the 30th to Bologna. Arrive in Città di San Marino on the 31st and stay for three nights there (I know, it’s a lot, but there aren’t many other places to stay in the country). On June 3rd, speed all the way to Basel to catch Nicolas, and go all around Switzerland with him until the 7th or 8th. Then go to Liechtenstein, and from there go South towards Vatican City, probably through Switzerland. Then it leaves me twentyish days for Malta, Monaco, Andorra, Spain and Portugal, as well as finishing Italy and France.

And here’s the late video for last week!
