🇮🇹 Pozzallo → Siracusa
Not a whole lot to report today. Since I had to leave the overpriced (but comfy) B&B at 8 AM and the bus was at 16, I spent most of the day on the Pozzallo beach.
However, since I had all my gear with me, and no lockers, I couldn’t go for a swim. Instead, I just took off my shoes and socks, and went for a long walk with my feet in the shallow water. That must have been quite a rare sight, seeing a guy fully clothed down to the knees, wearing two backpacks, walking across the beach. I bet it doesn’t happen too often!
I walked, I drank, I ate, I read, I waited. I met with one of the B&B hosts enjoying the Sun. Looks like a good life.
The replacement bus finally took me to Siracusa [Syracuse, Sicily], where I got a small panic attack when not seeing the train announced on the board. There were strikes in trains these last two days. No staff was in the station. I tried to get a ticket on the machine to see the status, but it just said « sold out ». I tried to call and waited and waited, until I finally saw a staff back at his desk. Train is still going. Oof!
On the sleeper train I go, alone for a part of the trip. We passed near Mount Etna again, which I would have loved to go to today, if I didn’t get stuck in Pozzallo. Hopefully tomorrow I can take the train that goes around Mount Vesuvius like a crown of barbed wire.
By 23, I was all excited to see our train getting put on the ferry again. Such a cool concept! I stayed in the train, but it is possible to get out and enjoy the ferry’s deck for the hour that the crossing lasts.
Oh and btw, I finally updated the Blog index page!
