Like a walk in the past 🇭🇷

🇭🇷 Split

As the bus’ last laugh yesterday, my sunglasses broke while I was in there. My first mission was then to find a new pair. I got a cheap one, let’s hope it survives two months.

Split [Split, Croatia]’s old city is magnificent, even more so by daylight. It has to be one of the best preserved antique city this side of the Brandenburg Gate. Romans knew how to build gorgeous places, especially around the Adriatic coast.

I left the old center early though, and started to hike towards a beach in the West of Split. It was a very nice walk at start, as the path followed the coast. Like the path WAS the coast, when there wasn’t a gravel beach there. The water looks gorgeous in all shades of blues and greens, and perfectly clear when reaching the shallow shore. At some point the path ended, and I had to climb back up the hill to the main road. Fortunately not for too long, and I arrived to a great beach, going three fourths of a circle in a small bay. On the North, a steep cliff was overlooking the scene, while the island-dotted sea went Southward.

or the first time in a couple of years, I put my towel on the beach, and stayed there doing a whole lot of nothing. I went in the water a couple times, but it was quite fresh. Which was really handy against the burning Sun.

I stayed there a few hours, until finally walking back the same way.

Later I was joined by Marianne, whom I met two days ago in Mostar, for some drinks. She has been travelling for a few months too, so it was pleasant to have a chat with someone who can relate to those kinds of holidays. We walked around the old town a bit and stumbled upon street musicians in front of the beautiful Vestibul.
