Woke up early and extremely tired. Night was short because of the alcoholic that came in the dorm last night. He moved frantically in his bed every five to 10 s, and somehow ended up butt naked…

The ride from Zagreb to Rijeka was quite uninteresting up to Ogulin, where we started to have some relief, but mostly a lot of mist.

But Mistress Dread Balkans had a last trick up their sleeves for me: a replacement bus. The train went no further than Fužine [Fužine, Croatia], and from there we had to take a bus. Aha, and I thought I was done with them! Nice jinx. The route was amazing when we reached the coast though, but my heart cried when we cross the railway from which we should have arrived. What a missed opportunity!

However, we didn’t go all the way to Rijeka, but to the small perched village of Škrljevo, from which we took back the train. Yay!

A nice short ride later and I was in Rijeka. When I look a few days ago, there were plenty of hostels available here. This morning there was one left, and it was four kilometers away (and uphill) from the center! Finally getting there with a fully full city bus, I am asked to pay cash… and the nearest ATM is 20 min walk away.

I went a bit later, did a bit of grocery, and waited a while for a bus that never came, so I hiked back up there.

At least, I have a dorm for myself tonight, and the room has an incredible view over the bay. When night fell, a thunderstorm illuminated the sky in bright white flashes. I didn’t see the eletric arcs though.
