I leave the hostel and pass for the last time the Dragon Bridge, under heavy rain, towards the train station.

In Postojna, the rain doesn’t stop. I walk 10 min and got soaked, so I took refuge in a café for a bit. Rain seemed to calm down, so I left, but of course it only got way worse. I took shelter at the tourist information center, and stayed there for maybe 30 min. Rain was diluvian, I haven’t seen that much in ages. In fact of the whole trip. My mood was really awful by now, but I had to leave at some point, for another 15 min of walk under the monsoon, ending up drenched to the bone.

Once there, I left both my bags in the storage area… which was but a simple counter in the main ticket hall. Being in shit mood, I just went way too fast and put the bags on the top layer, not even putting the small one deep against the wall, didn’t think about the security cable, and I think even the GPS was off… Needless to say I was scared shitless the whole time and it really spoilt my visit. Good thing it’s my third time in Postojna.

At least I managed to forget my worries for the 10 min of the fully underground train ride! A small, but very long, tourist narrow gauge railway going a few kilometers underground to the main caves. It’s only two-person seats on a metal planck, there are no walls or roff. The rock is cut as less ass possible: even seated, I opted to retract my head many times as the cave roof drew very close.

The visit was nice though. Just a slow long walk, with few pauses, which was great for my panic. And after an hour we took the train back the same way. It’s a really fun and unique ride.

Rain finally stopped. I got my bags back and could finally breathe. I did a quick tour to the vivarium, but most animals there are very shy. You can still see quite well the axolotls, and some crustaceans. Even a blind fish.

I walked back under a fine drizzle and stayed at the hostel for the remainder of the day.
