High speed through the desert 🇪🇦

04/07/2024

🇪🇦 Madrid → Zaragoza

That was one of the most noisy and disrespectful dorm of the trip… Glad to be out. But I’m not wide awake yet, and almost took the metro to go to yesterday’s station, Chamartin.

I realized in time and went to the correct metro, but this time I paid for a trip all the way to the terminus stop. Oh well…

I’m early, which is always good since boarding high-speed train in Spain requires you to pass your luggage through X-ray machine.

I haven’t seen much of Madrid, but I won’t miss it. However, the scenery between Madrid and Zaragoza is fantastically desertic and hilly. I would like to point out that one of my recent blog article was titled « The trains in Spain stay mostly in the plain » in reference to a famous line from My Fair Lady. However, it proved blatantly false, as all train journeys I had in Spain were marvelously mountainous or hilly.

Interestingly, I’m crossing the Desert at high Speed on the American independance day. If you know, you know.

In Zaragoza, I take the bus to the hostel, check-in and blend with the locals by having a nice afternoon siesta. I went out after 17, but it was still excruciatingly hot. Zaragoza is much more my kind of place: much more quiet and relaxed, and beautiful. And that cathedral, oh my!

I came back in the evening, for the last night in an hostel, but mostly, my last night abroad.

Train count: + 2 (including 1 metro)
Total: 332
