Scandinavian Hat Trick 🇩🇰 🇸🇪 🇧🇻

28/02/2024

🇩🇰 København → 🇸🇪 Göteburg → 🇧🇻 Oslo

Walking past Tivoli, an amusement park in the middle of the city, I leave København [Copenhagen] in the Danish morning. A long journey ahead today!

First, let’s go towards Sweden. For that, the train goes through the amazing Øresund tunnel/bridge, across the eponymal strait. The first half is a tunnel dug under the North Sea (the third one of the journey, four if you count the Eurostar two journeys!), which emerges on the tiny island of Peberholm, still in the Danish Realm. Here, mirroring the Great Belt crossing from two days ago, the road and the railway become a single bridge, with the car road serving as a roof for the railtrack. The crossing is pretty fast and already…

Hej Sverige!

The ninth country of the tour so far, but also the 23rd country I’ve ever set foot in in my life, and only the second « new » country on this specific trip. Since we’re talking statistics, in the Tour so far, it’s also the fourth time I go directly between two countries that doesn’t share a land border, and three of those were still by train (France-United Kingdom and back, Danish Realm-Sweden)! The other time was by boat between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Once on dry land, we took a 90 ° turn North, from times to times seeing a bit of coast. A very nice ride, really fitting of the 60th train of the trip, that ended in Göteburg [Gothenburg]. From now on, it’s the furthest North I’ve been during this trip.

There, I tried to find a Swedish flag around the train station before I leave (for beard continuity reasons), but no luck. Not a big problem though, and I don’t have time to go further.

Already I’m jumping in the second multi-hour train of the day, for my night destination: Oslo. Yes, I only spent like six hours in Sweden this time (with five of them spent in the train), and for a first visit, it’s a bit short. Sorry Sweden! You just have an unfortunate location.

But no worries, I have a few nights in the country coming up later. Shortly after we leave Göteburg, I see the first spots of snow. And then more and more. We get closer to Norway, by both distance and scenery, and here are the first frozen lakes dotting the landscape. It’s so lovely to see this nature again, I missed it!

Hei Norge!

Norway gets the privilege to be country no. 10 of the journey, and the first time I hit three countries in a day.

First visit since 2016, and back then I had already decided it was one of the most beautiful countries in the World. The winter scenes that pass by the windows are only here to confirm. Unfortunately it was quite difficulty to get decent pictures, so you’ll have to trust me on this.

Finally in Oslo in the late afternoon, but here the sun set early, and already the evening sky blackened into the night as I walk towards the hostel.

Train count: + 2
Total: 61
