Old town, old friend, old beast 🇵🇱

🇵🇱 Kraków
This morning, we’re meeting with Tomász, an old friend and colleague of Duha, who’s living there for years. He treated us to lunch, while they recalled old times and traumas from their former workplace.
After that, he led us to the center of the old town. In the middle of the vast main square lies a beautiful market building. We kept strolling through the center until we reached the foot of Wawel Castle, perched on its promontory. Tomász went on his way, and we went for a visit of the castle’s court. It’s a magnificent complex of walls, towers, church and living quarters, all of red bricks, constructed high above the river Vistule. The remparts are now a balcony over te river and parks.
We came back to the old town, wandering randomly through its great cobblestoned streets. After a deserved break and a delicious hot chocolate (which was actual melted chocolate, yummm), we headed back to the castle, as we missed the Kraków dragon statue earlier. To be frank, it does look like it was made by a kid, but what makes it pretty cool is the flame coming out of its mouth every five minutes.
Next destination was the Jewish quarter, another ancient part of town. Kraków is dotted with superb buildings, and, for once, not all of them are dedicated to any variation of the god that failed to unite people in peace.
Later in the evening, we went for some good pizza, and met back with Tomász, at Świat Piwa, Tomász’s very own beer bar! Heartily recommended, it offers a selection of 800 beers, with a very knowledgeable staff. He offered us a few ones that we would have never heard of otherwise, gave us some advices to visit Gdańsk and Wrocław, and remembered past times with Duha and their crazy lab.
A great evening, concluded by a walk through the park that encircles the old town.
