Pluviometry and laundry 🇸🇮

🇸🇮 Ljubljana

Rainy day. Like very rainy. And I chose today, as I’m still staying in Ljubljana tonight, to do my laundry. Even better, I decided to try to wash my clothes by hand to day. Well, Im not convinced I managed to actually clean them, but one thing for sure, they will never dry in here today. So I load them in my small backpack and head on to the city to find a laundry. Unfortunately, the one I had found on Maps, which was 15 min walk away from the center, was actually a dry cleaning thing. So it’s walking all the way back to the center, under the rain, where I finally find one.

It was quite crowded, as lots of people were finding shelter from the weather. Here I got chatting with two French girls who were crossing Europe too. So far, all the backpackers I’ve met were women. It’s great to see that we’re living in such a safe place that women are not scared to travel alone, in more adventurous ways!

Dry clothes back in the pack, I set to the castle. I actually had to wear the bag under my jacket, as they would have definitely been wet again with this unrelenting rain. But that won’t stop me! The castle is on a tall hill in the middle of the city. You can reach it either by walking, or with the funicular. Not that I don’t like walking, but I can’t resist a quirky rail transport. The castle is like the city and country, it’s small, cute and calm. I walk around it, savouring the views over the city, before walking in the adjacent park, alone in the clouds.

Back to the funicular and to the hostel (by bus, this time). Later in the evening, I treated myself to a restaurant, then I join Nina and Mady to Metelkova, a small court next to the train station, dedicated to street art and music. It has a punk atmosphere which is very surprising and in complete contrast with the city. There’s a small « bar », but no music tonight. Just an open mic with a drunk guy from Annecy expressing his dislike for Le Pen, to put it gently.

After a while, the rest of the German gang joined us, and we took the bus back to the hostel.

Train count: + 2 funiculars
Total: 19
