🇮🇪 Dublin

There are just days like that where you fail everything you try.

It was a rainy rainy day in Dublin today, but I thought better than to spend the whole day in, so I hit the streets anyway, wandering randomly as usual, and loosing myself in the Trinity College campus. Some nice historical part in the city, but it’s too much hidden among the modern buildings. At first, I was really happy with my gear, keeping me perfectly dry and warm. However, it was only up to a point. After less than a couple hours of walking, my pants were starting to get drenched, and so would be my passport if I didn’t take shelter!

I stayed in a coffee for over an hour, hoping to dry a bit, and I did some planning for the week ahead. It should be all set now: Galway, the cliffs of Moher, Belfast… Only thing missing is another night in Dublin in a few days.

I get back to the hostel, and my keycard is not working. Took a couple of elevators trip to get it fixed, but eventually I’m in my dorm. Spoiler alert: that should have been a red flag. After a hot shower, I find out my towel smells. I packed it too quick last time, erf! So I get the brilliant idea to hand-wash it. The Ljubljana fiasco of 2022 didn’t made me learn anything… Now here I am, hoping against hope that it will dry in time for tomorrow morning.

I don’t feel like going out again with this weather, so I keep on planning the second British leg. Glasgow, Inverness, Edinburg, London, all cheap hostels. Nice. That makes a change from the Republic of Ireland. I didn’t expect it to be that expensive to be honest!

Talking about expenses, I did yet another mistake, a couple days ago. I had actually made a reservation for the hostel I’m currently in for the 4th to 6th… So I had to pay for a third night. Idiot! It’s hard to keep track of which night you’re sleeping in which city when you’re always on the move. Especially when you’re as unorganized as me.

Anyway, in the evening I go back in town (I forgot to put my gloves to dry, another fail for today) to find something to eat and more importantly something to drink and to listen to. I found a pub with live music. Great ambiance, really nice playing by a guitar/violin duo. But being alone, it wasn’t the best experience. I struggle way too much with shiness, even while travelling, and that SUCKS. Today’s been more annoying than when I recently went to the dentist to get, you know, that interior furniture removal with only a small sleep potion for the local nerves (anesthesia) – pulling teeth.

Oh and I forgot to activate the GPS tracking before 19:00. Tomorrow should be an easier day.
