🇵🇱 Gdańsk → Malbork → Gdańsk

The day started with the tri-monthly, or deca-daily, or whatever « every 10 d » is, laundry task. There was one a couple minutes walk from the appartment, in a commercial center. Duha joined me there later, after getting a tiny bit lost, and we did some grocery for lunch.

Now, if you’ve been an attentive reader of this blog, you might have realized that tonight will be three nights in a row spent in the same city. What the hell is happening? Is he getting old? lazy? both?? Well, no (yes). The original plan was to spend two nights in Gdańsk, then two in Wrocław. However, we quickly realized that it would be a much better idea to spend a bit more time in Gdańsk, so we exchange one in Wrocław to stay there longer.

Allowing us to do a day-trip to the Marienburg Castle, in Malbork. While trying to buy a ticket at the booth, the woman selling it told us we wouldn’t have time to take it, it leaves in five minutes. Pfff! We ran for nothing, we still waited four minutes and a half.

Anyway, a short ride later and we were greeted in Malbork by a big farmers’ demonstrations. It was quite a musical experience. And then, we arrived in front of the biggest castle in Europe. Wow… It is indeed MASSIVE. As a French, I felt put to shame. And it’s freaking gorgeous too! All made in red bricks, yum!

We did the audioguide tour, which lost us a couple times, which means there’s a possibility we missed a whole part of the tour. But it was nice and interesting to learn about the heart of the Teutonic Order territory, back in times where the same person ruled with a legislative, executive and justice medley of powers. Oh wait…

We took the train back to Gdańsk later, and stopped in a more northern station. From there, we went for a bit of a stairs hike up the Pachołek hill. In itself, it has a nice overview on the city, but on the 15-meters tower on top of it, you get the full 360 ° panoramic experience.

Gdańsk is actually a very spread out city: it took us 30 min of tram to get back to the central station!

We did some more grocery and Duha cooked us (don’t judge me, I washed the dishes) a big pile of pierogi (the local raviolis).

Train count: + 3 (including 1 tram)
Total: 106
