🇦🇹 Graz → Innsbruck

Today, I’m crossing most of Austria, East to West. I was hoping to do so in a panoramic car, as indicated by interrail, sadly it was only for first class. Whatever.

The six-hour journey was quite uneventful, but comfortable and beautiful. Not as epic as I imagined, but still wonderful. The train passed in vast valleys the whoe time, surrounded by tall but distant mountains. Peaks were often white with snow, although always thinner, like a receding hairline. We followed rivers more or less closely, and here and there was a waterfall. The railway also follows the West shore of the Zeller See lake, a local aquatic base.

Funnily enough though, we went through Leoben, where I stopped for a couple hours back at the very end of March, almost two months ago! That was quite a loop!

It was the middle of the afternoon when the train got into Innsbruck. I checked the GPS track, and sadly my phone couldn’t find me once since Graz, so it made a boring straight line between the two, evne though the train went to Hell and back on the way. What can you do.

I soon jumped back into a regional train for another station, a lot closer to the hostel. After filling out the damn form and doing a bit of grocery, I was back with yet another big headache. The painkiller didn’t kill any pain, thus I ended up sleeping deep for an hour. It’s not often these days that I actually fall asleep while napping, so it was welcome, and made the migraine disappear.

However, I didn’t stay up long. The alarm clock is set for 4 AM…

Here’s a video of a full trip back from the depths of Postojna Caves, in Veliki Otok, Postojna!
