Czech-in 🇵🇱 🇨🇿

22/03/2024

🇵🇱 Wrocław → Szklarska Poręba → 🇨🇿 Tanvald → Praha

Hardest day to wake up yet, for some reason. Maybe because today I’ve been on the road for 50 d! But as the poet said, the road ain’t my bitch yet, still a good hundred days to go!

Duha woke up way earlier and nicely brought us some breakfast. We took the tram to the station to kick-off what will be a pretty long travel day.

The first train was pretty full, but we got lucky enough to get seats together. It lasted for other three hours, taking us ever closer to the Czech border. In the second half of the journey, the train slowed down for a lenghty ascension of the Polish-Czech mountain. It’s been some of the most interesting scenery I’ve seen in a few weeks.

So, seven nights in Poland. The most in a row, and the most in total tied with the United Kingdom. Maybe a bit much compared to the Baltics, however the cities we visited were definitely worth it!

At the cute border village of Szklarska Poręba, we just had time to jump in a small regional train. It had very wide windows and was quite comfortable. We really enjoyed this ride, especially with the slow forest crossing, full of hiking paths and rivers.

Ahoj Česko!

Just time for a coffee at the Tanvald station, and we’re hopping in the last train for today. A much larger one, but with plenty of space. We climbed down from the mountains and crossed the flatter fields of inner Czech Republic, until finally reaching our destination: Praha [Prague]!

It’s already night, so we don’t see much while walking to the airbnb, where we are met by a very talkative and overly enthusiastic host. He’s an Italian retired teacher leaving in Czech Republic for many years, and couldn’t stop talking us about how he travelled like us in his youth. He gave us plenty of advices too. A great encounter!

Talking about encounters, later in the evening, we went to a bar (it’s two euros a pint here!) and got offered some delicious honey-whisky shots by a group of Czech and Slovak guys. We talked with them for a good while, and they were super happy that we were not in a tourist trap. They knew the city very well and gave us tons of tips to visit Praha tomorrow, and I also got plenty of recommendations for Slovakia. A great evening had by all!
