Raining in paradise 🇲🇪

03/05/2024

🇲🇪 Bar, Crna Gora → Podgorica → Žabljak

Rain was pouring down this morning, as Kamel and I walked to the train station. As today, we are taking a small portion of the Montenegrine train! Bar, Crna Gora [Bar, Montenegro] is located at the end of the rail line that goes all the way to Београд [Belgrade], a railroad that is said to be one of the most beautiful in Europe, if not the World.

It was indeed beautiful, especially when crossing Lake Skadra, but the best part are further North in Montenegro, while we stopped in Podgorica. The train were old and battered, but nothing remotely close to the state of the Albanian ones for sure. Sadly the windows were filthy.

Once in the capital city, we headed to the bus station and stumbled upon Melissa, the girl from yesterday bus. We walked together to the city center, but somehow lost track of each other at some point. Kamel and I explored a public park and an old Ottoman bridge, over the glimmering turquoise river.

We later tried to visit the Natural History Museum, but since Labour Day in Montenegro is on both 1st and 2nd May, today lots of things were closed too. I’m gutted to not have taken a picture of the Museum entrance… at the ground floor of a residential buildings from the 70s or earlier.

Narrowly avoiding a second shower, we jumped in the minibus to Žabljak. Like in North Macedonia, no seatbelts, mountain roads, rain, driver on the phone… And with the humidity, we couldn’t see shit of the wonderful landscape. I hate the bus.

Not much else to report today, we stayed at the airbnb for the evening, preparing ourselves for tomorrow hike in Durmitor NP. Sometimes it do be like that on long trips. Some day that was just your life as almost usual and that’s it. More adventures tomorrow!
